Jan Cheng Lighting wins patent infringement lawsuits filed by Everlight Electronics

　DanceLight is a Taiwan lighting brand established by Jan Cheng Lighting Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Jan Cheng”) in 2008. Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. (“hereinafter “Everlight”) alleged patent infringement upon five of its patents relating to LED chips design and manufacturing since November 2022, and thus, filed complaints against several lighting suppliers and distributors in Taiwan, which has sent shockwaves through the Taiwan lighting industry.  

　Everlight had filed three lawsuits against Jan Cheng and DanceLight’s northern regional distributors (three plumbing and electrical materials stores) for selling DanceLight’s products and claimed damages in an amount of TWD230 million.  After nearly two-year trial proceedings, the IPC Court adjudicated on July 31, 2024 that Everlight’s three invention patents (No. TWI553264B, No. TWI644055B, and No. TWI665406B) fall in the grounds for revocation, and therefore, rendered a judgment against Everlight.  Further on September 30, 2024, the IPC Court dismissed other lawsuits Everlight filed for its two design patents and also its motions for provisional execution (patent No. TWD191225S and TWD193225S).  (Released 2024.10.14)
