In a press release, the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance stated that the customs of Taiwan has been actively enforcing border inspection in order to fulfill the important administrative policy of intellectual property rights protection and also to root out the entry and exit of infringing products.  Throughout 2023, a total of 326 IPR infringement cases had been uncovered.  323 of the 326 cases, accounting for 99.08% of them, involved a total of over 87,000 counterfeit imported goods with an estimated market value above TWD690 million.  Seizure of these counterfeit goods demonstrates the remarkable achievement in enforcement.

The Customs Administration pointed out that the counterfeit goods seized in recent years were mostly imported via express delivery.  According to the Administration’s statistics, in 2023, there had been a total of 292 infringement cases uncovered in the maritime express handling unit or the air express handling unit, accounting for 89.5% of the total cases in that year.  In addition, the seized infringing goods were mostly 3C products, cosmetics, garments, and pharmaceuticals.  As these products are those for daily use, their entry or commercial availability, if any, in the domestic market, will be detrimental to consumers’ rights and health and will also adversely impact the legitimate business performance and ultimately tarnish Taiwan’s international reputation.  (Released 2024.02.21)
