Movie88 accused of infringement by MPAA; information that the mainframe located in Taiwan fake, says CIB

US media reported that Movie Picture Association of America considers taking action against an online video-rental site, Movie88.com, for renting Hollywood box office movies at low prices to enlarge its membership.  Major film production houses are worried about losing a great deal of audiences for their video-on-demand movie website in the future and, thus, suffering from loss of profits because of Movie88.Com. 

 

According to ABC's website, Movie88 is based in Taiwan where US IPRs have difficulty being realized.  WIPO estimates that pirated DVD and videotapes in Taiwan have caused Hollywood to loss US$557m in the year 2000 alone. 

 

In regard to the foreign reports othat this Taiwan-based international movie website has caused serious injuries to US film industry, the Criminal Investigation Bureau expressed that CIB has been investigating into this matter as early as two months ago, and discovered that Movie88’s mainframe is actually situated in a IT company in the US.  The application information for this domain name is completely false.  Foreign media were wrong reporting that this website is Taiwan-based.
